Georgia Suspending Excise Tax on Motor Fuel

Georgia governor Brian Kemp has suspended excise fuel tax for motor carriers from March 20 - May 19 2026 to give truckers a bit of fuel rate relief. To report your Georgia activity correctly on your IFTA form just report ALL miles driven in Georgia in your Total Miles column but Exclude them from your Total Taxable Miles column.

This will help preserve your MPG calculations while zeroing out your tax liability in that state.

Remember, this ends May 19th at 1159 p.m. This will affect your Q1, Q2 filings as the covered period overlaps both.

2026 Quarterly Deadlines (standard schedule):

  • Q1 (Jan–Mar): Due April 30, 2026

  • Q2 (Apr–Jun): Due July 31, 2026
